If you walk through our vineyard, you will see and smell a variety of cross-pollinating plants, including over 300 olive trees and five kinds of clover. Sweet peas, native grasses, vetch, and mustard grow in abundance. In the spring, we mow and spade these cover crops into the soil to release nutrients while decomposing and creating warmth for the vines. As you walk on, you might spot bluebirds, dragonflies, and ladybugs, signs of a vineyard in good health.
Since David Abreu began farming our vineyard in 1985, he's brought into play his over 25 years of experience to take care of it as if it were his own.
He's helped us to farm 100% organically, certified by the CCOF. During each growing season, David and his team thin clusters two to four times, so that those that remain can get more nutrients and grow to their best flavor balance.
He's also helped us make our vines more biodiverse, first by planting a variety of clone and rootstock combinations throughout our Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Sangiovese blocks. The result: a high degree of complexity in our wines, bringing out the flavor traits of each different section of our vineyard.
Why not come and see the beauty of this vineyard for yourself, and try some of the wines it produces? You can set up a tour and tasting today.
