Preview of the 2007 Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon by Wine Writers at A Day in the Dust

The Rutherford Dust Society Tasting "A Day in the Dust" on July 14, 2007 generated some great buzz by wine bloggers about the upcoming 2007 Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon:

Steve Heimoff of the Wine Enthusiast blogged that all the wines present were "stunning, lovely wines. ...all, as Peter Granoff observed, display a breed and elegance that few other places in California are capable of... My highest-rated wine was the great Staglin 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon."

Jo Diaz blogged her tasting notes on the 2007 Staglin Cab: "Staglin Family Vineyard ~ I wrote, WOW, yum, while taking my notes. It was a bring it on moment. As it happened, this was the very last wine of the tasting, so to have that “bring it on moment” told me that I was on my way to understanding the intense interest in Cabernet by so many."

The 2007 Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon will be released in October 2010. If you'd like to be among the first to purchase this wine you can sign up for an allocation online or by calling Michele at (707) 963-3994.

"Firm. Aromatic. Moving. Emotional."

These are Mark Stuart's words about his "passionate experience" tasting the 2006 Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet at the NVV's Taste Napa Valley event in San Diego in March 2010. He says that taste "will mark a place in time for years to come." Read Mark's whole article on thecorkhead.com

"A Mesmerizing Kinetic Quality"

"Like Château Ausone, the wine has a mesmerizing kinetic quality in the glass, leading the senses through a rhapsodic repertoire of aromas and flavors that include blueberry, boysenberry, violet, coffee, and fresh peppermint on the lengthy finish." This is Brett Anderson's description of the Staglin Family Vineyard INEO 2006 in the March 1, 2010 issue of Robb Report Magazine. You can learn about how the INEO Meritage Blend was conceived in his full article at RobbReport.com.

"The Taste of Charity"–Desert Entertainer lauds Staglin family's charitable efforts

On January 6, 2009, Norman Mark of Desert Entertainer writes about Staglin Family Vineyard among "some of the best and most heartfelt givers among the wine labels," placing Staglin first in the list. "Over the years, the owners, Shari and Garen Staglin, say they have given more than $710 million to charities, mostly for mental health research." Read Norman's full article

"A Lavish Attack"–fun commentary by W. Blake Gray

Wine blogger W. Blake Gray lampoons our tasting notes for the 2006 Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet in his very funny July 17, 2009 post. Yes, our winemaker Fredrik has an incredible palate and is a passionate tasting notes writer–but who expected his notes would get this kind of notice? For a preview of what Blake talks about, here are Fredrik's notes:

"The wine opens with an abundant nose of candied cherries and ripe plums complex with notes of cedar and pencil shavings, a whiff of black olives and just the faintest hint of jasmine floating above. A lavish attack on the palate is lead by ripe Satsuma plums and marionberries in an ebullient bath of Maraschino liqueur followed by an uninhibited mid-palate of blackcurrants deepened by notes of leather, loam and rich chocolates that oscillate between milk and dark, girded along the way and through the exit into a lengthy finish by plentiful and luxurious tannins."

"Staglin Family Vineyard: Pouring with Purpose"
Jeanne Winnick Brennan of LuxLife magazine recently interviewed our family, and wrote an article on philanthropy. This article appeared online on November 11: "With a keenly focused business approach and a deep commitment to community and medical philanthropy, the Staglins have rocked the landscape from the Napa Valley to Washington, D.C. with sensational fundraisers on behalf of local charities and national mental health research." You can read the whole article on LuxLife's website.
Rutherford hosts Hong Kong sommeliers and industry leaders
On September 22, 2008, our winemaker, Fredrik Johansson, was one of a panel of six Napa Valley wine producers who helped host a group of Hong Kong sommeliers and industry leaders to taste 2001 Napa Valley Cabernets. At the event organized by Napa Valley Vintners at Martin Estate in Rutherford, Fredrik presented our 2001 Staglin Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The event was a "very successful meeting," said Petra Martin of Martin Estate. You can read more in The St. Helena Star.
